Welcome to CarryOn Firearms Training’s Texas Licensed To Carry (TLTC) Course! (Currently Enrolling)
This Course includes the USCCA Handgun Fundamentals Course/Textbook and is the course you need to get your License To Carry (LTC) for Texas, as of January 1, 2016. Anyone with a current Concealed Handgun License (CHL) or LTC will now be allowed to open-carry, as long as you use a belted holster or a shoulder holster, only. If you are a current CHL holder, you are legal and can take advantage of the new Open Carry law and your current CHL will be upgraded to LTC upon renewal. By choice, you can send in to get the new LTC Permit. It requires a form from DPS (this form can be obtained online) and $25.00. This is the only course “required” in order to obtain an LTC with a small exception (please see IMPORTANT NOTE below for further explanation). Firearms safety and firearms knowledge in general, especially if you are fairly new to pistol firearms is a responsibility of all firearm owners/operators. I believe you will enjoy it and be glad you took the time to attend such a course.
The overall objective of this course is to educate students on the responsibilities, proper conduct, and laws applicable to concealed handgun license holders, as well as the consequences that may come to bare upon brandishing one’s firearm to discharging a firearm in a self-defense situation.
Sections of study are as follows:
- Laws that relate to firearms and to the use of deadly force.
- Handgun use and safety (these are usually touched upon lightly, see IMPORTANT NOTE below).
- Non-violent dispute resolution.
- The aftermath of a defensive shooting.
- Dealing with Law Enforcement.
- Proper storage practices for handguns with an emphasis on storage practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child.
- Other related topics will be covered
Successful completion of this course includes a test on the information covered during the course and a handgun proficiency test.
We will be scheduling this course on the same day as the LTC Course with range being scheduled for the following day. The website for LTC License registration and application information is: Applicant Information. You may find other helpful information at this location too. There is no longer a minimum caliber of this Proficiency Test.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The LTC Course is preceded by the USCCA Handgun Fundamentals Course (included in the cost of the TLTC and includes a Textbook and Certificate of Completion). This insures that you get the necessary, required instruction and information needed to confidently carry a firearm. This includes firearm safety, safe handling and safe storage of firearms and ammunition. Other topics to be covered include situational awareness, avoidance, other uses of force, dealing with conflict and the ego states, non lethal use of force, continued training and much more. The LTC Course will cover the laws pertaining to concealed carry and firearms, including; where you can carry and where you can’t carry, campus carry, open carry, when not to carry and under what circumstances, how to handle yourself when dealing with Law Enforcement, just to name a few.
We teach these classes this way, together, in an effort to protect you and the general public from accidental harm or lawsuit. When we decide to carry a firearm in public to defend ourselves, our loved ones, possibly those who can’t defend their selves, or for whatever reason, our lives carry a whole new level of responsibilities. CarryOn Firearms Training does not want anything negative to happen to any LTC holder or the innocent and we sincerely hope every firearms enthusiast believes in the same level of responsibility. Carrying a concealed firearm brings with it a new way of living life …CarryOn!
You will receive a Certificate of Completion for both Courses, one for the USCCA Handgun Fundamentals Course and one for the LTC Course. They will work great together! And, you will be armed with good information to help you responsibly continue to expand your firearm/concealed carry knowledge base and training.
